BIN Inventory โ Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 26, 2026
BIN Inventory (the iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch app, and the web app at inventory.busterinn.com) keeps track of what a household or a small business owns and where it is. It is run by A2 Labs ("we"). The iPhone and iPad app can be used in two ways: without an account, with everything kept on your device, or with an account on our server, for a shared inventory. Accounts are by invitation: an administrator of a household creates them, and there is no public sign-up. The app is not aimed at children. This page describes what the app collects in each case, why, and how it's handled.
Without an account, and the household on your device
If you choose "Use Without an Account", we collect nothing. The app doesn't connect to our server at all: no account, no sign-in token, no push notification token, and no copy of your inventory, photos or receipts is ever sent to us or to anyone else.
- Your inventory, photos and receipts are stored only in the app's own storage on your iPhone or iPad. They are included in your device's iCloud Backup or computer backup, which Apple or your computer handles under your own settings; we have no access to them.
- The camera, photo library and Face ID work as described below, but nothing leaves your device.
- Deleting the app deletes this data from the device (copies in your own backups remain until those backups are replaced). We can't recover it, since we never had it.
- The same applies to the household kept on your device ("On This iPhone") while you're signed in: it is never sent to us, and signing in doesn't move it to the server.
Everything below applies only to an account and its households on our server.
Using the app with an account
What we collect
- Account information: username, name and email address, and a hashed (never plain-text) password, used to sign you in and to send password-reset emails. If you add a passkey, the server keeps only its public key; the private key stays in your device's or password manager's keychain.
- Inventory data you or your household enter: item names, quantities, SKUs, barcodes, categories, locations, notes, where an item was bought, expiration dates, equipment details (serial number, make and model, purchase price, warranty), the reason and date an item was archived (for example lost or stolen), and when it was last checked. Photos of items and locations, receipts (photos or PDFs) and small custom pictograms that you upload are stored with it.
- Change history: who changed what and when (quantity changes, moves, edits), so members of a household can see the history of their inventory.
- Sign-in tokens: a per-device token (not your password) keeps each iPhone, Apple Watch or browser signed in, with the device's name so you can recognize it. Signing out revokes it.
- Push notification token: if you allow notifications, Apple's device token for this app, used only to send you this app's notifications (low stock, out of stock, expiration reminders). It's removed when you sign out of that device or delete your account.
We don't collect your location, contacts, browsing history or advertising identifiers, and the app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising code.
Camera, photos, Bluetooth and Face ID
- Camera: used to scan barcodes and QR labels and to take photos of items, receipts and locations. A scan sends only the code it reads; the camera feed is never recorded. Photos are uploaded only when you save them to an item or location (and never without an account).
- Photo library: the app sees only the photos you pick, through Apple's photo picker.
- Bluetooth: used only to print labels on a Niimbot label printer near you.
- Face ID / Touch ID: the optional app lock uses Apple's on-device authentication. The app never receives, stores or transmits biometric data, only a yes/no result from iOS.
How data is used and who sees it
Everything above is used only to run the app for you and your household. We do not sell data, share it with third parties for their own purposes, or use it for advertising or profiling.
- Your household: members of a household see its inventory, photos, receipts and change history, and its member list. Administrators can also add and remove members and export the household's data (a ZIP file or a PDF report).
- Printed labels: a QR label opens the item in the app. Someone without the app who scans one sees only the owner name and contact your household chose to print on its labels, never item details.
- AI assistants you connect: if you connect an AI assistant such as Claude to your household (by adding BIN Inventory as a connector in that assistant), it can read and change that household's inventory with your permissions, and what it reads is processed by that assistant's provider under its own privacy policy. Nothing is shared with an AI provider unless you connect one, and we'll disconnect it on request. (A way to disconnect it yourself in the app is coming.)
- Service providers: Apple delivers push notifications, and an email provider delivers password-reset emails. They receive only what's needed for that (a device token, or your email address and the reset link).
- Legal: we may disclose data if the law requires it.
Where data lives and how it's protected
All data, including photos and receipts, is stored in a database on a server operated by A2 Labs, and travels over encrypted HTTPS connections. Photos and receipts can only be downloaded by signed-in members of their household. Sign-in tokens are kept in the iOS and watchOS Keychain, and in the browser's local storage for the web app.
Retention and deletion
Data is kept for as long as your account and your household exist. Entries in the detailed change log are deleted after one year. Copies in our nightly database backups are kept for up to one year and then deleted.
You can delete your account at any time in the app (Settings → Delete Account) or in the web app. That removes your account and signs you out everywhere. Households where you are the only member are deleted with everything in them; households shared with others are kept for them, and their history keeps your name on changes you made. You can also ask us to delete your account or data, or for a copy of it, using the address below.
Children
The app is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
